Travel Shedule

Day I – Arrival Tallinn and Soomaa national park

Welcome and introduction to the program. After arriving we head towards the Sooma national park, where we take a lunch, followed by a walk in the Soomaa National Park, a unique moorland. We are assisted by a professional guide, who explains us more about the history and formation of the bogs and gives us information about all sorts of berries and mushrooms.

After completing our walk a delicious dinner awaits us and we conclude the evening with a soothing sauna. Rest, nature and adventure are the keywords during the first days of our trip! We stay overnight in Ponka Puhketalu, located in the Sooma National Park.

Day II An adventurous horse riding trip and a floating sauna in the Baltic Sea

We take a hearty breakfast before we take the ferry to the island of Muhu. After our arrival at Muhu, we drive to Tihuse Talu, where we make a 2-2.5h trip with horses along the shoreline, followed by a local lunch. Along a spit, we continue our drive to Kuressaare, the capital of Saaremaa, the largest of the approximately 1,500 Estonian islands.
Kuressaare, is best known for its spas and also because of the presence of the Bishop’s Castle (Piiskopiliinus), which attracts thousands of tourists. It is the only fully preserved stone castle from the Middle Ages in the Baltic States, and it is surrounded by a beautiful park, a moat and an impressive bastion from the 17th century. In Kuressaare we will take a small coffee-break.
Full of energy, we drive a little further towards the Vilsandi National park, where we are expected for another unique experience, a floating sauna on the Baltic Sea. Tired but satisfied, we move a few kilometers further to Loona Manor, where a well-prepared dinner, made of local produce is waiting for us . We overnight at Loona Manor!

Day III – Vilsandi Archipelo, windmills and a meteor crater

After breakfast, we will be visiting the Vilsandi island on foot – by walking straight through the water!

This is a real adventure. We leave our car to Saaremaa, pack our backpacks, and away we go! We will meet natural lawn mowers – the sheep – and different rare plants while hiking through the water and over the islets. On Vilsandi we will be picked up by a truck and taken to the 200-year-old light house in the westernmost point of the island. There we will get the marvellous view to Vaika islets – the place from where the nature protection of the Baltics started in 1910. We will have time to enjoy the view, swim (weather permitting), and listen to our guide’s stories about the Nature Park and life in Vilsandi throughout the times. A number of sailors, ship-builders and tradesmen grew up on Vilsandi – once a busy island, but nowadays a peaceful corner of wilderness. Hike on coastal trail. Lunch in farm, truck to the harbour and boat takes us back to the mainland.

Once back on the mainland we start driving along the Kaali Metoorkrater and the Angla windmills, to finally reach Triigi, where we take a ferry to the island of Hiiumaa. Dinner and overnight at the Kassari Peninsula!

Day IV – Untouched Hiiumaa

Hiiumaa is the second largest Estonian island and is compared to Saaremaa, rougher and much less populated. There are also very few cars. On the island there only live 11,000 people, including 4,000 in the ‘capital’ Kärdla. The majority of the country is dotted with bogs, marshes, wild meadows, juniper and pine.

In the morning we bike to visit the Sääre tip, Suuremõisa, a wool factory and Kassari chapel. Before our lunch we move to Kärdla, we pass a cross hill and end up driving towards the Kõpu lighthouse and beyond, where we stay in a comfortable and cozy cottage, near the Ristna lighthouse and an old Sojet army base. Ristna is also the windsurfing paradise in Estonia. The Kõpu Lighthouse is the oldest working lighthouse in Europe! Supper time we prepare ourselves !!

Day V – Back to Tallinn via the North-Estonian cliffs

Around noon we return to Tallinn. After 75km we take the ferry to the mainland and from here we follow the road along the North-Estonian cliffs to finally reach Tallinn. Before we satrt our short trip, we take a stop in Haapsalu.

Haapsalu has 12,000 inhabitants and was a leading spa town during the czarist regime. The city was originally built around the ‘Episcopal castle of Haapsalu! (Haapsalu Piiskopilinnus), which dates from 1279 Other must-sees are the ‘seaside promenade “(Promenaadi). For the promenade stretches the “African Beach”. Along the promenade you will find the Kursaal (1900), right in front of the Tchaikovsky Bank. The famous composer was a regular visitor to the seaside town and even used a theme from an old Estonian song in his Sixth Symphony.

From Haapsalu we drive along the cliffs to Tallinn and take some stops at interesting viewpoints and the waterfalls of Keila-Joa. Once in Tallinn, in the late afternoon, an introduction tour through the Old City is scheduled. So that we assure you make the right restaurant choice. Overnight is arranged at the Metropol hotel or similar, located just outside the Old City. In the new Rotermann district.

Day VI – Guided tour in Tallinn

Besides a classical tour inside the Old Town, we offer a look at some other districts. The Soviet legacy in Põhja-Tallinn (“North Tallinn”), the extensive parks and the coast of Kadriorg (“Valley of St. Catherine”) and the bustling business district in Kesklinn (“Center City”).The tour lasts 7.5-8 h. We spend 2h in the Old Town and 5-5.5h in the surrounding districts. We will do suggestions where to go for lunch and dinner. The evening you are completely free.
